Welcome to Classroom #157 Mme Legault’s Grade 5 French Immersion- 2016/2017 School Year
1. Who is your French teacher?
My name is Natalie Legault and I have been teaching French in Ontario since 1999. I have also taught English as a second language in Gatineau and English as a foreign language in Japan. I live in Barrhaven with my husband and our three sons.
2. Our day. Your child will spend half the day in French and the other half in English. The following subjects will be taught in the French language: French, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education/Health and all four Arts. The morning group will have Physical Education on Monday (2nd period) taught by Nathalie Rochon and Wednesday (2nd period) taught by me and the afternoon group will have gym on Thursday (and Health) and Friday during 4th period both taught by Nathalie Rochon. Madame Rochon will also be teaching Social Studies to the afternoon class on Tuesday.
3. French. In September, we will be reviewing and acquiring important vocabulary, sentences and grammar: classroom vocabulary, question words and sentences, present tense verbs avoir (to have), être (to be) and regular verbs finishing in er, ir and re. This term we will be working on procedural and descriptive writing. Please encourage your child to bring home his/her French notebook and duo-tang. All notebooks and duo-tangs can go home as long as they come back to school the next day.
4. Sciences. Our first unit will be the Human Body. If you have expertise in any of our fields of study and are willing to help, please let me know.
5. Social Studies. Our first unit will be The Role of Government and Responsible Citizenship. We will be using the new Social Studies curriculum that uses the inquiry process.
6. HELP! AM Class Only. Allergy season is upon us and we will need tissues for the classroom. A donation of 2 boxes of tissues would be appreciated. We also require large Ziploc bags.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me at school. My website is used mainly to post study sheets for tests. For regular updates on what is happening in class, please follow us on Twitter @MmeLegault. My Tweets are imbedded in my webpage.
Sincerely,
Mme Natalie Legault
